[ mood | stumped ]

Apparently when my grandmother was in her youth, she was a good friend of Miguelito Valdez. Her brother-in-law, Raul, was the pianist in Xavier Cugat's orchestra.

Wherever he went, he was always accompanied by two or three blondes.

This is a picture of him.

Have you any similarly astounding stories?

This may be hard to get if you don't have soulseek (which you can get at slsk.net) but:

Pino Donaggio - Mother at the Top of the Stairs (from the Carrie Soundtrack)

is amazing.

I'm currently entranced by thoughts of...

Lacrimosa (particularly Eine Nacht in Ewigkeit and Kyrie)
Faith and the Muse
Evanescence - Eternal (wonderful, wonderful song)
Industrial Monk

(All are artists, unless songs are specified.)

Random collection of music, but it's all good :)

Victory Music Needed [09 May 2004|11:06pm]

Le Tigre: good band.

I need something to celebrate the end of exams, and soon, the end of school. Anybody even BREATHE "school's out for summer" and they're dead.

i saw you baby dancing. [07 May 2004|09:58pm]

The Dresden Dolls - Girl Anachronism OR
- Missed Me.

this does not sound like nearly anything i have heard to date, and its not plodding or pretentious. their information describes the sound as "punk and German Cabaret music," but it really is only granted the title "punk" because of its intent, though it occasionally has fast rhythms.

Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band - My Human Gets Me Blues

Barenaked Ladies [06 May 2004|07:28pm]

So I'm on a BNL kick right now, and I must tell you all about the joys of Barenaked Ladies. The stuff that they air is somewhat different than the majority of the rest of the things on their CDs, but it's all wonderful.

Helicopters - I believe this song is from their Maroon CD. It's a somewhat political song, kind of a general R&B sound, I guess
Celebrity - A somewhat ironic song on, you guessed it, Celebrity! Again, slow and relaxed sound to it. Off of their new CD, Everything to Everyone.
Upside Down - Again from E2E, this song has a faster beat, and I can highly relate to it. It has a guy who doesn't want to change his world just because it's too complicated.
Testing 1, 2, 3 - E2E, another general R&B tune, I don't know quite why I like it, but I do.
War on Drugs - E2E, about a girl who has been used and abused. It's slow, and melodic in some parts.
Note: I really just like all of E2E, along with all of their other stuff... Thus choosing a few songs that I like is somewhat difficult
Sell Sell Sell - Another ironic song, about the fickleness of show business, I guess. It shows our market mentality fairly well. Medium paced, but fairly melodic.
Tonight is the Night I fell Asleep at the Wheel - This song is pretty literal, it's exactly about what the title says. It has that down-up-up you get in a waltz in the background, except more like it's being played lightly on... how can I not remember the name of the instrument? The accordian!
Shoebox - I've like this song since I heard it in 8th grade, when I didn't even know who it was by. It's about a disillusioned kid with a shoebox of lies. Upbeat sound in some parts.
Get in Line - Upbeat song about this highly paranoid guy. It's quite amusing.
Brian Wilson - How could you not have this on a list of awesome BNL songs? I can't even describe it. It's just so nice.
When I Fall - This song is a great chill song, deals vaguely with suicide.

Okay, there are definitely more good BNL songs on my playlist, but that's enough for now, I guess. If you want more recommendations, just ask. :)

Party Music [03 May 2004|07:05pm]

Ashley MacIsaac - Sleepy MaggieCollapse )

Requesting songs for parties. I don't mean just dance songs or anything, but those songs that you love to hear at parties... songs that to NOT hear them at a party, would make you sad.
